Atlantis is the capital and largest city of the Markian Empire, and thus, the whole world. It is the largest city in the world in terms of surface area, and is situated on a manmade island in the center of the Atlantic Ocean.

A major settlement for eleven millennia, its history goes back to the original ledgends of what was at the time thought to be an imaginary nation situated in the middle of the ocean. Further research eventually proved that these rumors were true, and the city did indeed sink below the water around 3710 BC. The ruins of Atlantis lay undiscovered until the year 2002, when explorers searching for fragments of the shipwreck of Titanic came across the city. It was not until 2006, however, that any attempt would be made to recover artifacts from the site. In that same year, Emperor Mark I chose to instigate the rebuilding of the city, proposing a planned island metropolis that would one day become his grand Imperial capital.

Atlantis is a leading global city, one of the world's largest financial centers, and is home to more international business headquarters than any other city. influence in politics, finance, education, entertainment, media, fashion, the arts and culture in general contributes to its global position. It is a major tourist destination for both domestic and overseas visitors.

The Atlantean Raipid Transit network, administered by the Imperial Infrastruture Industry, is the most extensive underground railway network in the world, and the Frank C. Pirok Interplanetary Air and Space Port is the world's busiest port by number of domestic, international, and interplanetary passengers, and the airspace is the busiest of any urban center in the world. The Port of Atlantis is also the largest internation shipping port in terms of tonnage shipped worldwide, as well as for passenger traffic. In addition, the Grand Atlantean Shipyard, the Imperial Navy's largest naval base, and the Atlantis Army Base, center for the Imperial Army's operations, can be found within the city limits.
